Children ages 10 to 12 who are entering 5th or 6th grade can take part in a program built around greater independence, stronger friendships, and more advanced camp experiences. Oak Crest Day Camp gives senior campers a schedule that includes extended evenings, off-site trips, and activity choices designed for pre-teens.

Senior Late Nights allow campers to stay beyond the regular camp day for swimming, organized games, dinner, and special events. Each evening ends with time around the campfire and S’mores. Staff supervise all activities while campers spend more time with friends and become more confident in group settings.

Senior campers also attend day trips to attractions such as Dorney Park. These outings give children the opportunity to explore new places, share experiences with their group, and practice independence with staff support.

Through the Choice Program, campers select activities based on their interests. Options may include sports, creative arts, and team projects. Choosing their own activities helps campers try new things, build skills, and develop decision-making abilities.

Oak Crest Day Camp’s senior program offers a structured experience for pre-teens who are ready for more choice, responsibility, and time with their peers.

Senior campers ages 10 to 12 can build athletic skills through regular instruction, practice, and game play. Designed for children entering 5th and 6th grades, the sports program at Oak Crest Day Camp gives campers opportunities to stay active, learn proper technique, and improve at a pace that matches their experience.

Each week, campers rotate through team and individual sports such as soccer, football, lacrosse, basketball, pickleball, hockey, archery, BMX biking, and skateboarding. Activities take place on fields, courts, and tracks suited to this age group, using equipment selected for older campers.

Trained coaches teach the basic skills and rules of each activity. Depending on the sport, instruction may cover passing, shooting, positioning, balance, movement, and safe equipment use. Beginners receive clear guidance as they learn, while more experienced campers can refine their technique and take on new challenges.

Weekly League Play gives campers a chance to apply what they have learned in organized games, including soccer, football, handball, and dodgeball. Teams are balanced by ability, and staff members officiate each game to support fair play and proper rules. Campers learn how to communicate with teammates, respond to coaching, handle competition, and contribute to a group.

Oak Crest Day Camp offers senior campers a structured way to develop sports skills, stay physically active, and gain confidence through coaching, practice, and team play.

The weekly schedule includes Ceramics, Cooking, Science, Nature Exploration, Survival Skills, Drama, Dance, Music, Computers, Digital Photography, and Jewelry Making. Sessions are held in air-conditioned classrooms where campers can work comfortably and focus on each project.

Specialists lead every activity with clear instruction and hands-on practice. Campers learn how to use materials, tools, and techniques while having the freedom to make their own creative choices. They may shape and glaze pottery, follow simple recipes, create jewelry, study plants and wildlife, or take part in science experiments.

Technology-based activities introduce campers to practical digital skills. In computer and photography sessions, they can learn how to use software, cameras, and basic editing tools. Many activities result in completed projects that campers can bring home, display, or share with their group.

Senior girls may also choose to participate in Showcrest, Oak Crest Day Camp’s annual dance and drama production. Rehearsals take place during scheduled activity periods, leading to a performance during the sixth week of camp. The production is held at a nearby venue with professional lighting and sound.

Showcrest gives campers experience learning choreography, rehearsing scenes, working with a cast, and performing for family members and fellow campers. Participants develop stage confidence while learning how preparation and teamwork contribute to a full production.

Senior campers ages 10 to 12 can test their strength, balance, and focus through the climbing and ropes program at Oak Crest Day Camp. Each activity gives campers a clear physical challenge while allowing them to progress according to their comfort level and readiness.

The Climbing Tower includes two rock walls with different difficulty levels, a Giant Swing, a 200-yard Zipline, a Giant Cargo Net, and Jacob’s Ladder. Campers receive instruction before each activity and can set personal goals, whether that means reaching a higher point on the wall, completing a new obstacle, or trying an element for the first time.

The High Ropes course adds elevated obstacles that require balance, concentration, and careful movement. Campers learn to plan each step, follow directions, and continue working when a challenge feels difficult. The High Ropes Confidence Course provides additional mid-air elements that encourage problem-solving and trust while campers remain secured in safety harnesses.

Trained and certified staff lead all climbing and ropes sessions. They explain equipment use, review safety procedures, and supervise campers throughout each activity. Equipment is inspected daily, and both courses are certified each year by their original builders to confirm that they meet current safety standards.

Oak Crest Day Camp offers older campers a supervised way to take on physical challenges, work toward personal goals, and build confidence through climbing and high ropes activities.

Ropes Courses

10 Year Old Day Care Summer Camp 07920

Campers ages 10 to 12 can shape part of their weekly schedule through Choice sessions designed around their interests. These sessions give senior campers at Oak Crest Day Camp the opportunity to select activities from several areas, including sports, creative arts, performance, and specialty programs.

Each week, campers review the available options and choose where they would like to participate. They may join a team sport, work on an individual skill, create an art project, play music, paint, or take part in hands-on crafts. The program allows campers to try unfamiliar activities while continuing to develop interests they already enjoy.

Choice sessions also teach campers how to make decisions and take responsibility for their selections. By choosing an activity and participating throughout the session, campers learn to manage their time, follow instructions, and stay involved in a goal they selected for themselves.

Some activities require a longer commitment. Campers may choose to rehearse for a drama production or learn choreography as part of a group dance. These rehearsals take place during regular Choice periods and build toward Showcrest, Oak Crest Day Camp’s drama and dance performance.

Showcrest is presented during the sixth week of camp at a nearby venue with professional lighting and sound. Campers who participate learn lines, practice movement, work with a cast, and prepare for a live audience. The experience helps them understand how regular practice and teamwork lead to a completed performance.

Oak Crest Day Camp’s Choice program gives senior campers more control over their schedule while providing clear structure, varied activities, and opportunities to follow a project from selection through completion.

Choice

Campers ages 10 to 12 take part in group challenges that strengthen communication, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. At Oak Crest Day Camp, senior campers work together during field games, relay races, cooperative obstacle courses, and strategy-based activities. Each challenge gives them a shared goal and requires them to listen, contribute ideas, and support their teammates.

These activities help older campers understand how successful groups work. Campers practice making decisions together, dividing responsibilities, adjusting their approach, and working through disagreements. The focus remains on participation, effort, and teamwork rather than which group finishes first.

Trained counselors guide each session and model respectful communication. They teach campers how to express an idea clearly, listen to another point of view, and give or receive feedback appropriately. When a group faces a difficult task, counselors provide direction without taking over, allowing campers to find solutions and learn from the experience.

Oak Crest Day Camp maintains a strict no-bullying policy. Staff monitor group interactions, encourage inclusion, and address problems when they occur. Campers are expected to treat one another with respect so every child can participate, develop friendships, and feel supported within the group.

These supervised activities provide senior campers with regular opportunities to build trust, take responsibility, and become more effective teammates. Through shared challenges and counselor guidance, campers develop social skills they can use both at camp and in other group settings.
