Challenge-based activities play an important role in the senior program at Oak Crest Day Camp for children ages 10 to 12. Senior campers participate in the camp’s Climbing Tower and High Ropes courses, which are designed to build confidence, coordination, focus, and personal goal-setting in a fully supervised setting. Campers progress at their own pace and are encouraged to attempt each element only when they feel ready.
The Climbing Tower includes two rock walls with different difficulty levels, a Giant Swing, a 200-yard Zipline, a Giant Cargo Net, and Jacob’s Ladder. Campers rotate through these elements during scheduled activity periods and choose their level of challenge based on comfort, skill, and readiness.
The High Ropes course features elevated obstacles and additional climbing elements that require balance, planning, and problem-solving. A newer addition, the High Ropes Confidence Course, offers mid-air challenges that further develop trust, perseverance, and decision-making while campers remain secured in safety harnesses at all times.
All climbing and ropes activities are supervised by certified, trained staff. Equipment is checked daily, and both courses are inspected and certified annually by their original builders to meet current safety standards.
For families living near Cranbury, NJ, Oak Crest Day Camp’s climbing and ropes program provides a structured way for pre-teens to safely test their limits, build confidence through achievement, and develop physical and mental strength through guided challenges.
