Physical challenge activities are a regular part of the senior experience for campers ages 10 to 12 and are structured to support confidence building, coordination, and personal goal setting. Campers participate in climbing and ropes elements at a pace that matches their comfort level, with encouragement to gradually take on new challenges.
The Climbing Tower features multiple elements, including two rock walls with different difficulty levels, a Giant Swing, a 200-yard Zipline, a Giant Cargo Net, and Jacob’s Ladder. Campers choose which elements to attempt and progress based on readiness, allowing both first-time climbers and returning participants to have meaningful experiences.
Senior campers also use the High Ropes course, which includes elevated climbing areas and balance-based obstacles that require focus and controlled movement. The High Ropes Confidence Course adds additional mid-air challenges designed to strengthen problem-solving skills, trust, and perseverance, all while campers remain secured in harnesses.
All climbing and ropes activities are supervised by trained and certified staff. Equipment is checked daily, and both the Climbing Tower and High Ropes courses are inspected and certified annually to meet current safety standards.
For families living near Fords, NJ, Oak Crest Day Camp offers a structured and closely supervised climbing and ropes program that allows older campers to challenge themselves physically while learning to work through obstacles in a controlled and supportive environment.
